Holiday Season Success: Tips for Optimal Health & Happiness

Thoughtfully Syncing With The Season

This month’s theme focuses on how we embody the holiday season in order to stay true to ourselves, give homage to ancestors, honor traditions and take thoughtful action to maintain optimal health—mind, body and spirit.

The holiday traditions that we celebrate today have been passed down for generations and are rich with ancestral and seasonal wisdom. Way back in the day, people would come together during this time of the year to share a diverse harvest, sacrifice animals for the fat, protein and calories needed to stay hearty and healthy during the cold months and enjoy each other’s company when the days were short, dark and probably pretty dismal at times.

While we’ve carried many traditions forward into contemporary times—think holiday potlucks, Thanksgiving turkey, a Christmas ham—a lot has been lost to commercialization, altered through modernization and depersonalized.

Rather than running around mind-numbingly buying gifts, feeling scattered, stretched thin and beating ourselves up for falling out of our normal diet and fitness regimes, I propose that we work toward embracing the wisdom of our foremothers and fathers.

There are thoughtful actions we can take concerning our health, relationships, finances, self-care and time management that can help us not only stay centered during what can feel like a chaotic and triggering time, but to also develop empowering personal resources and routines. By staying mindful and true to you, you can increase resilience and come out of this holiday season feeling healthy and strong.

In this video, Set Yourself Up For Optimal Health And Holiday Season Success, I discuss ancestral and seasonal history, rich with wisdom that we can draw from today. I also offer simple, yet potent tips designed to help you stay true to you and your personal path this holiday season. Looking ahead at the triggers, places in which you might fall out of diet or fitness routines and the strong emotions that can arise this time of year and then making a thoughtful plan can go a long way in helping you stay on your path when things start feeling overwhelming. Our minds and hearts are very powerful. When we connect with their wisdom, we get to ensure that our needs are getting met, practice our highest truth and stay present and loving for and toward all parts of the Self.

Personal growth starts with personal reflection!

JOURNAL PROMPT:

The holidays can be a challenging time of year…

On the one hand, the season brings with it festive opportunities to spend time with loved ones, sharing food, exchanging gifts, deepening relationships and experiencing joy. On the other hand, the holiday months can feel overwhelming and trigger anxiety about family, relationships, managing time, finances, gaining weight and falling out of fitness routines—to name just a few.

As the chaos of the season approaches, I’ve been asking myself, how can I make the most of it, and I’ve been asking my coaching clients the following questions to help them do the same.

What is it about the holiday season that sabotages your personal health and wellness?

When considering optimal health and setting yourself up for long term success; how can you best utilize the shorter, darker days and busy schedule of the holidays?

How can you restructure your fitness routine and overall daily schedule to make the most of the holiday season?

Holiday blessings,

Katie
